Cherokee County's largest city
The Woodstock Police Department describes the city as the largest municipality in Cherokee County, covering more than 12 square miles with over 35,000 residents (City of Woodstock Police Department). It sits in the southern part of the county (New Georgia Encyclopedia: Cherokee County), so it is mostly subdivisions, townhomes, and apartments.
That mostly means driveway and parking-lot pickups. Let us know if the vehicle is in a garage, behind a gate, or in a community with towing rules.
Project cars and second vehicles
A lot of Woodstock donations are vehicles that were going to get fixed "someday": the project car on jack stands, the SUV with the bad transmission, the pickup that failed emissions. We review them as they are. For a partly disassembled vehicle, tell us what's missing and whether it rolls. If major parts are stored separately, say so and we'll tell you whether they can go with it.
If the title is in your name and a spouse's, both of you sign. If you're not sure who's on the title, look at the owner names printed on the front.
Cherokee County tag office and Georgia title steps
Woodstock residents are served by the Cherokee County tag office. Georgia titles and registrations are handled by each county's tax commissioner, which runs the local tag office. For Cherokee County, that is the Cherokee County Tax Commissioner. Check that office's site for current hours and locations; Georgia DOR keeps a statewide list of county tag offices. In most donations you won't need to visit at all: you sign the title and we handle the transfer paperwork.
Signing the title. Georgia DOR says the owner completes the assignment on the back of the original title, in blue or black ink, and that alterations or erasures can void it. Every owner listed on the front signs. Never hand over a title signed in blank; Georgia law treats that as a misdemeanor. We mark exactly which lines are yours before pickup. (Georgia DOR: transferring a Georgia title)
Lost title. Georgia replaces a lost title through the county tag office using Form MV-1 Title/Tag Application and a replacement fee (DOR lists $8). If a paid-off loan still shows on the record, the lender's Form T-4 lien release may also be needed. A title that is lost after you sign it gets replaced in your name and reassigned. Tell us at the start and we walk you through it. (Georgia DOR: replace a lost or stolen title)
Your license plate. In Georgia the plate stays with you, not the vehicle, so take it off before the tow truck arrives. You can move it to another vehicle you get at your county tag office. Cancel the registration online through DRIVES e-Services or with Form MV-18J before you drop insurance; DOR fines coverage lapses on a vehicle that is still registered. Questions we hear from Woodstock donors
Will you take a project car that does not run?
We review non-running and partly disassembled vehicles. Tell us what is missing, whether it rolls, and what title you have.
Both my spouse and I are on the title. Do we both sign?
Yes. Georgia DOR says every owner listed on the front of the title signs the assignment. We show you both where to sign.
I cannot find the title. What now?
A lost Georgia title is replaced through the county tag office with Form MV-1. Tell us before doing anything; we will tell you exactly what your vehicle needs.
Do you pick up in Holly Springs and Hickory Flat?
Yes. We review requests throughout southern Cherokee County, including Holly Springs, Hickory Flat, and Mountain Park. Pickup is scheduled after acceptance.
