Cars Helping KidsFainting Goat Foundation · EIN 99-0472123Start a donation

Donate a non-running car.

A vehicle does not need to be roadworthy to be considered. We review whether it can be owned, accessed, loaded, transported, and sold or recycled safely. Pickup is free only after acceptance.

Conditions we will review

Dead battery, no-start, blown engine, failed transmission, long-term storage, collision damage, salvage title, flood or hail damage, missing keys, flat tires, missing parts, repair costs that exceed value, and older “junk” vehicles. None is an automatic yes or no without the full facts.

What to tell us

Does it roll?
Does it steer?
Are wheels attached?
Are tires inflated?
Are brakes locked?
Are keys available?
Is it complete?
Does it leak?
Can a truck reach it?

What can block pickup

Ownership or lien problems

The donor must have authority to transfer the vehicle. An unresolved lien, disputed ownership, open estate, or missing required title can delay or prevent acceptance.

Unsafe condition

Active fuel leaks, battery-fire damage, unstable debris, loose parts, multiple vehicle sections, or contamination may require a specialty provider or make pickup infeasible.

Access

A locked garage, steep soft ground, narrow gate, low wires, underground parking, blocked driveway, impound hold, or lack of property-owner permission can prevent loading.

Open insurance claim

Do not transfer a wrecked or flooded vehicle while an insurer may take title or possession. Resolve the claim and ownership status first.

How pickup works

  1. Submit the year, make, model, VIN if available, condition, title and lien status, location, and contact information.
  2. Provide photos when requested, especially wheels, access, collision damage, missing parts, fluids, and the VIN plate.
  3. We check whether an appropriate towing, salvage, auction, or recycling route exists.
  4. If accepted, a partner coordinates timing and loading instructions. Do not leave documents or keys before confirmation.
Missing title or keys? Disclose it. Some cases can be handled and others cannot. State, vehicle age, registered owner, lien history, steering lock, drivetrain, and available documents all matter.

Donation versus a cash junk-car sale

A commercial buyer may pay cash. A donation supports a charity and may qualify for a deduction only under IRS rules. Compare actual cash offers with your goals and tax circumstances. Cars Helping Kids does not estimate your tax savings or claim that donation is financially better for every owner.

Tax and proceeds

When an accepted vehicle is sold in an arm's-length transaction, the deduction is generally limited to gross proceeds. The special rule for a vehicle sold for $500 or less still requires a compliant written acknowledgment and does not automatically create a $500 deduction. Towing, title, sale, recycling, and operating costs may apply; net proceeds are available for the foundation's charitable priorities.
